TLDR: With a pump hooked to the lid, you will place your silicone material in the chamber, place the lid on center, and turn the pump on - this will create a vacuum in the chamber and pull out the bubbles.
You’re going to have a pump that pulls the air out. That’s going to take your normal 120/110 power to operate.
From there you have two levers and a gauge on top. Before you turn on the pump, you are first going to close the lever that lets air in – once you turn on the motor, you’re going to see the air start to evacuate (indicated on the gauge). And when you’re ready to let air in, just open the lever.
- Make sure the container that you’re using is at least twice as large as your material inside. That material needs room to rise up and get the air out. If you have a small container that’s filled to the brim, it’s going to go everywhere.
- Make sure that you have a good seal on the rim of your vacuum chamber! If the seal is off a little bit, you’re never going to pull a vacuum and it’s just going to be really frustrating. Take your time and make sure the lid is on center!
- Let the material rise up, and then fold over on top of itself. That’s when you know about 90% of the air is out of the material. After that, a couple minutes of run time will get the rest of that air out!
- If you’re degassing and your material is getting really close to the top of your container, don’t panic! All you have to use the valve to let a little bit of air in and it will automatically drop back down – then re-close it and let it start to pull a vacuum again.
